Key Verse: Psalm 1:1, “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.” (NIV)

The secret of blessedness is walking in purity and fear of the Lord. “Man” in the Bible refers to both sexes of human being; that is male and female (Genesis 1:27). One of the secrets of living a victorious Christian life is meditating on the laws of God day and night. The laws of God are written in the Holy Book, the Bible.

You are a by-product of what you give your time and attention to. The Bible says the blessed man finds pleasure in obeying the LORD’s commands because he meditates on God’s Word day and night (Psalm 1:2). For any relationship between persons to work effectively, each person involved in that relationship must give his time and commitment to the other. The secret of walking in blessedness all the days of your life is to spend quality time with God in prayer and in study of God’s Word.

The blessed man is a person who hates wickedness, sin and does not enjoy the company of ungodly people. To “hate” is to have intense dislike for something. Beloved, do you have intense dislike for anything that offends God? The blessed man/woman shuns evil and does not entangle himself/herself with people who plan and carry out wickedness against fellow human beings.

Are you a wicked man? A wicked man is an unjust oppressor; an oppressor of the poor; a schemer that devices wickedness against the other; a violent person who spells disaster for anyone who stands in their way; an arrogant man who has nothing but contempt for God and a greedy man who seeks ungodly gain (Psalm 10:3-4). The difference between a blessed man and a wicked man is that the first delights in righteousness and the latter takes delight in his evil ways.

Wicked men pursue the poor and strip them of their possessions; they boast in their ugly desires; they renounce God in all they do and because some of them are affluent, they are convinced that nothing can touch them. Jesus said, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” (Mark 8:36). The wicked boast in their desires, but the Scriptures say, “Let the one who boasts, boasts in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:31).

Beloved, having realised that living in sin and wickedness will cost you your soul in Hell Fire, I enjoin you to embrace the life of blessedness in Christ. The better way of living is to live the God-Centered life and immerse yourself in the all-sufficient wonder of the God Who is. Beloved friend, choose to live for Jesus daily, because it pays to serve Jesus.
The benefits of living in blessedness

• A blessed man is a productive person, because he is connected to the source of blessedness. Psalm 1:3a, “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season …”

• A blessed man is spiritually alive and nothing takes him unaware because he is plugged into God like electric socket adapter (Jeremiah 33:3).

• A blessed man can never go down in life – it is an upward movement and backward never. The Bible says, “His leaf also shall not wither.”

• Finances will never run dry (Psalm 1:3).

• A blessed man will spend his days in prosperity (Job 36:11).

• A blessed man will go to his grave at a ripe old age (Job 42:17).
