Read Jer. 29:24-32. A letter to Shemaiah: “Therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his family: he shall not have anyone to dwell among this people, nor shall he see the good that I will do for My people, says the Lord, because he has taught rebellion against the Lord,” Jer 29:32.

Reasons For Believers’ Sickness Cont’
Read Jer.

29:24-32 “Shemaiah.” Shemaiah was a false prophet in Babylon who had written a letter to Zephaniah, a priest in Jerusalem, urging him to imprison Jeremiah. Evidently, Jeremiah’s letters to the exiles had angered the false prophets in Babylon. God responded by asserting that neither Shemaiah nor his descendants would participate in the return to Jerusalem.

• 17: Suffering Because Of The Sins Of Others
Jonah 1. Jonah flees to Tarshish. “But the Lord sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken up,” (Jonah 1:4).

“A mighty tempest.” God sent a great storm on the Mediterranean Sea to persuade Jonah to obey His call. Because of Jonah’s disobedience, the lives of the sailors aboard the ship were imperiled. If we are not fully committed to God and His will for our lives, our family and others will ultimately suffer as well.

AIDS Is As A Result Of The Sinfulness Of Mankind
Read Deuteronomy 28:21-63; Romans 1:18-32

Romans 1:15: “But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes, which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you.

Deut. 28:62: “You shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of heaven in multitude, because you would not obey the voice of the Lord your God,” (Dt. 28:15, 62).

Other people that suffered are children and spouses of HIV infected people and people who acquired HIV from transfused blood and injection needles.

Read 1 Sam 4:1-11. Israel defeated by the philistines.

“Then the Philistines put themselves in battle array against Israel. And when they joined battle, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men of the army in the field. And when the people had come into the camp, the elders of Israel said: “Why has the Lord defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord from Shiloh to us, that when it comes among us it may save us from the hand of our enemies,”1 Sam 4:2,3.

1 Sam 4:2: “Israel was defeated.” Israel suffered defeat because the priesthood had become corrupt and the people were living in disobedience to God’s commandments.
