The problem of sickness and disease is intertwined with the causes of sickness and disease in physiological or psychosomatic terms. The Bible presents spiritual causes as the underlying or basic problem: (a) sin, which has affected our spiritual and physical makeup (e.g., John 5:5,14), and (b) Satan (e.g., Acts 10:38; cf. Mark 9:17, 20, 25; Luke 13:11; Acts 19:11-12)

“So, you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from your midst. 26 No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfil the number of your days.” (Exo. 23:25-26) take sickness away. God connected the removal of sickness from among His people with their wholehearted devotion to Him and their separation from the ungodly influences around them. We should not conclude, however, that the sickness of an individual necessarily indicates he or she has conformed to the wicked ways of society.

This passage does suggest that the worldliness of God’s people as a whole will cause God to withdraw a portion of His blessing and power from them, thus affecting even the righteous among God’s people (cf. 1 Cor. 12:26).

Demons. (1) The NT frequently refers to those who are suffering from Satan’s oppression and influence because of the indwelling of an evil spirit, and to Jesus’ conflict with demons. In the Gospel of Mark, for example, numerous such encounters are described: 1:23-28, 32-34, 39; 3:10-12, 14-15; 5:1-20; 6:7, 13; 7:24-30; 9:14-29; 16:17.

• Demons are spirit beings. They have personality and intelligence. As members of Satan’s kingdom and enemies of God and humans (Mat 12:43-45), they are evil and malicious. They are also organised with different levels of rank and delegated authority under Satan (see Mat 4:10; Eph. 6:11-12).

• Demons can cause physical illness in the human body (Mat 9:32-33; 12:22; 17:14-18; Mark 9:20-22; Luke 13:11, 16). However, not all sicknesses and diseases are caused by evil spirits (Mat 4:24; Luke 5:12-13).
Anyone Can Be Sick In A Fallen World

“All things come alike to all: One event happens to the righteous and the wicked; To the good, the clean, and the unclean; To him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice. As is good, so is the sinner; He who takes an oath as he who fears an oath. This is an evil in all that is done under the sun: that one thing happens to all.” (Eccl. 9:2, 3).

“Yet man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upwards.” (Job 5:7).

Repent Or Perish

“There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. (Luke 13:1)
