The born again experience – Part 1
Text: John 3:1-7
Key Verse: John 3:7, “Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again” (NKJV)
The Christian journey starts from the born-again experience because the experience is very fundamental.
The experience is the primary thing and must be there all the way. A man who aspires to become a minister of God must show concrete proof that he is born again. That he is a new creature; that old things have passed away; that everything about him has become new; that his life has been transformed; that he is a child of God; that he is no longer a man of the world; that his name is written in the lamb’s book of life; that he lives for Christ; that he exalts Christ; that he has surrendered to Christ and it is all about Christ.
Some of us are of the impression that the unfortunate experiences that we have today with some of the ministers of God stem from the fact that they have to go back and reexamine themselves from the born-again platform. Now the question becomes, are you truly born again? For if a man is truly born again, there must be proof and evidence to show. If some people who call themselves believers are truly born again, then some of the things we are experiencing out there in the field should not be mentioned at all as the Apostle Paul told the Ephesians Church but they are being mentioned among them (Ephesians 5:3).
The worst problem that is facing the whole world today is not lack of knowledge of what is going on in the world and it is not lack of education because there is education everywhere but it is sin. The major problem that ministers of the gospel had to fight is sin. You can preach all you want to preach; you can teach all you want to teach and you can sing all you want to sing but for as long as this horrendous problem called sin has not been taken care of, everything is a pretense, everything is a waste and every other thing is deceit. Sin must be taken care of because that is why Jesus came (1 Timothy 1:15).
We know we are born in sin and our parents conceived us in sin. Everybody that comes into the world must agree with the sweet Psalmist of Israel that we are born in sin (Psalm 51:5). When the Apostle John was writing in one of his epistles, he said that the world lies in the hands of the wicked one (1 John 5:19). So whatever evil you hear of, whatever evil you read, whatever evil you see and whatever negative thing you see going on in people’s lives every day, you shouldn’t be surprised, because the world lies in the hands of the evil one. He is called the prince of this world, Satan the Devil.
When Jesus hung on the cross, He defeated sin once and for all and brought a permanent solution to the sin problem and when you believe in Christ, the power to live above sin is released to you (Romans 6:10). Christ has set us free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). The sin problem has been tackled and the power of sin broken. I urge you my beloved to make what I call an intelligent choice on this side of heaven, a voluntary choice, a willful choice and a joyful choice and that is to be born again and surrender your life completely to Christ.
