The last days of history – Part 18

Jesus will come back to earth at His Second Coming in exactly the same way He departed from the earth, when He went to the right hand of the Father.

What will happen at the second coming? Cont.
Jesus will come back to earth at His Second Coming in exactly the same way He departed from the earth, when He went to the right hand of the Father. Two men in white clothing told the apostles, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, Who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11)

A Visible, Bodily Return
This means, first of all, that Christ’s return will be a bodily one. Christ had a real body when He was on earth (1 John 1:1), and He will come in a real body, when He returns to earth.

Second, he will return in the clouds. “He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight” (Acts1: 9). Although He will be clearly visible as He comes, He will also be surrounded by clouds.

Third, His return will be in the full view of people. Those on the earth at the end of the Tribulation will be able to see Christ return and follow Him, as He descends from heaven to earth with His armies.

Fourth, Christ will return to the Mount of Olives. He ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olives (Acts 1:12), and at His Second Coming He will return to the Mount of Olives (Zech14: 4). Accompanying this event will be an earthquake that will split the Mount and open up a great valley, when “half of the mountain shall move toward the north and half of it toward the south” (Zech14: 4).
Conclusion to Armageddon

The event that precipitates the Second Coming is the final campaign of the war of Armageddon. The forces arrayed against Christ will be awesome, but their total annihilation will be even more awesome.

Christ will capture the beast (Antichrist) and the false prophet alive and cast them into the “lake of fire burning with brimstone” (Rev19: 20). Having dealt with these minions of Satan, Jesus will then deal with Satan himself. An angel will seize Satan and cast him into the bottomless pit (Rev20: 2,3), where he will be confined, powerless and inactive for 1,000 years—the duration of the Millennium.

New Birth and Resurrection
The Jewish people alive at that time will come to trust Christ, as they watch Him come and deliver them from the Antichrist. “Then they will look on Me whom they have pierced; they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn” (Zech12: 10). The next event to occur in conjunction with the Second Coming will be the resurrection of Old Testament saints and those believers who were martyred or simply died during the Tribulation (Rev20: 4; Dan 12:2). All of these saints will rule on the earth during the Millennium along with Christ. This resurrection is called the “first” because it comes before the resurrection, which takes place at the end of the Millennium (Rev20:,5).

The Blessed Hope
Paul called the Second Coming “the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus2: 13). No wonder, considering Christ’s victory over Satan and the promise of the glorious Millennium.

What Is Armageddon?

“And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.” (Rev 16:16)

“ARMAGEDDON.” (Gk harmagedon), located in north central Palestine, means “the mountain of Megiddo.” It will be the centre of “the battle of that great day of God Almighty” (Rev 16:14).
