Tithe is part of the covenant seed that we sow with God. It is the Lord’s portion of our harvest; the foundation and the bedrock of our giving. It should be the least of our giving.

Why Tithe?

Tithe is part of the covenant seed that we sow with God. It is the Lord’s portion of our harvest; the foundation and the bedrock of our giving. It should be the least of our giving.

• We tithe because God commanded it; refusal to tithe is an act of rebellion against God and His word.

• We tithe because if we don’t, we live under a financial curse of God. That is, when we gather, the wind of life blows it away.

“Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.” Malachi 3:9. When you tithe, God gives to you, but when you don’t, He takes away from you.

• We tithe to receive an increase of income, God challenges us in this too;

“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it,” Malachi 3:10.

• We tithe because God says He will rebuke the devourer for our sake (Malachi 3:11). The devourer is Satan. God promises to hold Satan and not allow him to steal from you.

Things To Know About Your Tithe
It shows God’s pre-eminence in our lives and where our heart is; it shows our love and proof of our priority.

Unlike offerings that we give according to what we have and with no fixed portion or percentage, the tithe is a fixed payment of what we have that is due to God out of what we earn in monetary terms and if in material terms, it should be converted to monetary terms.

“Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year… And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the Lord thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the Lord thy God hath blessed thee: Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose.” Deuteronomy 14:22-25

Apart from converting bulky materials to money, your tithe must be paid in your place of worship. You do not use your tithe for charity or as a seed for other ministries or ministers or send it to people as offering to support other projects. It is paid to your church where He has planted you.

• Your tithe should be the best and the first out of your income and should be paid with, and in joy

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying … then ye shall offer up an heave offering of it for the Lord, even a tenth part of the tithe. And this your heave offering shall be reckoned unto you, as though it were the corn of the threshing floor, and as the fulness of the winepress. Thus ye also shall offer a heave offering unto the Lord of all your tithes … out of all your gifts ye shall offer every heave offering of the LORD, of all the best thereof, even the hallowed part thereof out of it.” Numbers 18:25-29.
