White Dove Schools hold inter-house sports competition
The White Dove Schools, penultimate Saturday, held its annual inter-house sports competition on its premises at Olubunmi Okojie Road, Sangotedo, Lekki, Lagos.
The event, which afforded the students an opportunity to display their athletic side, started with a spectacular and colourful March Past, where students of the competing Houses—Topaz, Sapphire, Ruby and Jade— gave parents and other guests a taste of what would follow.
The competition proper featured many interesting activities, such as relay race, sack race, filling-the-bottle and 100-metre race for both male and female, among others.
The children gave their best to ensure that their respective houses emerged the winner, which often saw parents cheering on their children and other participants generally. It was truly a day of excitement for all the sports lovers that graced the event.
An elated Mrs. Oluwayemisi Adekoya, who is the school director, said she was overwhelmed at the outstanding skills, strength and athletic display by the students.
She said: “Our students can compete anywhere in the world because a lot of talents have been discovered. The sport competition is a good motivating factor, especially for those students that may not be academically sound. Sports is an important aspect in grooming children, as it helps in bringing out their other talents, as well as develop in them the spirit of team work.”
Also speaking on the importance of sports, the Vice Principal, Mrs. Kolawole Margaret, said inter-house sports competition is part of education, as it builds students’ self-esteem. She advised parents to encourage their children to always participate in sport activities.
Parents were not left out of the fun and excitement, as they also participated in a race and other games.
At the end of the day, Topaz House came first, while Sapphire House emerged second. The third position went to Ruby House, as Jade House came last.
