With God All Things Are Possible
Whatever God has the determination to do, either in Heaven or on this planet Earth must come to pass. He is in perfect control of everything, every activity going on on earth and in heaven. Power belongs to Him and in the demonstration of this power, human beings who believe in Him are the beneficiaries of the power. The Bible says in Mark 9:23, “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” Faithfulness and recognition of the power of God plays overriding role in the life of any man that enjoys the power of God. We as human beings faithfully believe that we are God’s creatures and that at the end of this life, He will take us to Heaven, based on our honest and faithful service here on earth. The biblical account of Creation proves that God, the Creator, has the power to do all things. Everything was spoken into existence, evidence of demonstration of raw power by the Superior Being, Who owns everything. In Mark 10:27, the Bible says, “And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men, it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.”
The impossibilities of men are easily possible with God. In the human world, precisely the earth, God uses human beings to execute projects beneficial to men. Ordinarily, men have no power of doing any spirit-controlled work, but when empowered by God, men can do exploits. That is why God has called men into spiritual projects. Elijah was an ordinary man like you and I, but because of the anointing of God on him, he performed many impossible things. When King Ahab went against God’s Will, imported foreign god, called Baal to be worshipped by Israelites and many other ungodly acts, Prophet Elijah, under God’s inspiration decreed there would be no rain in the land of Israel for three years and it was so. The Bible presents it thus in 1st Kings 17:1, “And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.” No man on his own can make such declaration of stopping the rainfall and it will be so, but Elijah under God’s powerful influence made it to be so. When men of God speak, they do not make declaration on their own accord, but by Divine inspiration and direction. Similarly, Elijah’s former servant, Elisha was squatting with some sons of a prophet. The house was in bad condition and needed repairs. They requested Prophet Elisha to follow them to the Jordan to cut some beams for the repair of the house. They went. While they were cutting down a tree, their axe head fell into the river. He cried out to Elisha, saying it was a borrowed axe. Then Prophet Elisha replied thus in 2nd Kings 6:5-7 saying, “But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! For it was borrowed. 6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim. 7 Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.” An axe head is indeed a heavy iron. If it falls into a river, it will go down to the bottom of the water, which has nothing to do to bring it up to the surface. It was only by divine intervention that Prophet Elisha used stick to make it flow to bring it up. With ordinary man’s power, recovering the axe head would have been clearly an effort in futility. If God had not intervened, the man’s cry would have been in vain.
Again, when there was a devastating famine, occasioned by the invasion of Syrian army against Samaria, to the extent that people were eating their children. Prophet Elisha, under God’s inspiration, predicted abundant food in such a manner that a measure of fine flour would sell for a shekel of silver at the gate of Samaria. It happened thus in 2nd Kings 7:1 the Bible says, “Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the Lord; Thus saith the Lord, Tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.” This statement sounds strange in a country where famine has made people to resort to eating their children, but it came to pass because God led a prophet to make this statement. In the same 2nd Kings 7:3-9, And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die? 4 If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die. 5 And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there. 6 For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us. 7 Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.8 And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it. 9 Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king’s household.”
It is only God that has the ability to magnify the footsteps of lepers to sound as noise of chariots, horses of great army putting confusion in the camp of Syrians and forcing them to flee the camp in haste. The lepers were surprised to meet the camp empty. They ate and drank to their fill, hid some and went and informed the king. When the people came, they gathered the spoil, which forced the price of food items down. The Bible says thus in 2nd Kings 7:15-16, “And they went after them unto Jordan: and, lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned and told the king. 16 And the people went out and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord.” As the man of God predicted, it came to pass, any word that comes out from the mouth of a servant of God comes to pass. God honours the word of His servant and the people that serve Him. If there is anything that gives you sleepless nights, report it to God in prayer and He will do it for you, if you faithfully embark into the project trusting God at every step. Whenever a problem confronts you, put God’s name at stake by calling Him for intervention, and He will bring it to pass. Nothing is impossible with God.
Club Girl, Prostitute Receives Christ, HIV Healed
“The thief cometh not but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy; I am come that they might have life, and they might have it more abundantly,” (John 10:10)
God has given me life after I lost all hope of living, due to my being infected with HIV.
It happened that I ran away from my father’s house because he did not allow me to live my life the way I wanted. After my secondary school education, my father pleaded with me to exercise patience to enable him raise enough money for my university education. But despite all his pleas, I did not listen. I left the house without anybody knowing when and where I was going.
I came to Lagos and lived with my aunt. While living with my aunt, I secured a job with Sarafoam and after a while, I left the company for another lucrative employment. When I travelled home for Christmas, my father was very happy to see me return home. He loves me because I am the most brilliant of all his children.
While I was returning to Lagos, I emphatically told my father I would no longer stay with my aunt. He pleaded with me to stay with my aunt but I refused. After returning to Lagos, I ran into one of my old friends, and I told her I would like to stay with her. She accepted me into her house.
Whenever I came back from work, they would be dressing up to go out. This was usually late in the night.
One day, I asked my friend where they were going that night. She told me what they were into and told me I might not be able to do it. However, she had briefed me, and I became interested because my friend told me they make a lot of money from the business. I wanted to save enough money for my university education. So, I decided to join them. Every night, we would dress up and go to a clubhouse. We visited all the clubhouses in Ikeja.
In the course of this practice, I gave my phone number to all clubhouse Managers in Ikeja. If any man needed any girl, they would call me and I would go immediately. There was no day, I would not go out, including Sundays.
Within the five months I did the work, I did not go to church for even one day. On Sunday morning, I would be sleeping in the house. Within the period of five months that I did the work, I slept with 55 different men.
In the course of prostitution, we stole men’s money and phones. Some of my friends would put drug into their sex partner’s drink, the man would drink the wine and sleep off. Immediately he slept off, they would steal either his money or his phone. There were times they would steal the man’s wedding ring. If they do that, the man would never forget them. Men who slept with me had been telling me to go for HIV test to enable me know my HIV status. One day, I was feeling somehow and I thought I was pregnant. I then decided to go for both pregnancy and HIV tests. I went to the hospital, where the two tests were conducted. The pregnancy test was negative, but I tested positive to HIV. After seeing the result, the doctor directed me to where drugs would be given to me. He said the drugs were to keep me alive for about three years, not that it would cure the sickness. I started crying, so much so that I no longer ate, because in my mind, I thought I was going to die. I was only preparing for my death.
During this period, I could not sleep again, as my body was always hot. One day, I went to Surulere for the drugs and I saw The Lord’s Chosen Evangelist sharing handbills. I collected one and told myself that I would use it to trace the church’s address.
Prior to that day, I saw The Lord’s Chosen Evangelist and preachers as noise-makers, who always disturb people’s peace. Each time they invited me to their programme, I would turn it down.
On that day, I decided to go to the church on my own. I said I should go to the church, pray and ask God for the forgiveness of my sins. I went to the church, prayed hard and cried my eyes out and then went home. As I was going home, I felt happy and I had rest of mind. In the night, my body was no longer hot, as it used to be; then I slept soundly till daybreak.
In the morning, which was a Sunday, I prepared and came to service early enough. On that Sunday, I also prayed, asking God to forgive me. When the Pastor started praying, he asked the people suffering from HIV to raise their hands. I was not ashamed and quickly raised my hands. The person sitting next to me, who had been conversing with me shifted her chair away from me and did not speak to me again.
The Pastor prayed and declared that all the people suffering from HIV, including myself be healed. As I was going, I said to myself that since the Pastor has declared me healed, there was no need going home with the HIV test report. I tore the paper and put it inside the waste paper basket.
On Monday, I went for a test. The next day, I went to collect the text. They directed me to the laboratory, where the test result was given to me. I stood, expecting her to tell me to go to the doctor that would give me the drugs. But the lady told me to go, that I had collected my result. On opening the result, I saw HIV negative. I was very happy. However, I went to another hospital on that Tuesday for another test.
The result still showed HIV negative. On Wednesday, I went to another private hospital for another confirmatory test; the result equally showed negative. God has delivered me from the hand of death. During those trying period, l thought I was going to die in a few months, but God has healed me.
It is now I understand my father’s advice and the mistake I was making. I thank God for healing me. Praise the Lord!
Sister Akudo Doris, Ashobi Street, Ogba, Ikeja.
