Your helper is here
Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away, for she crieth after us.
But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.
And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs, which fall from their masters’ table.
Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
Take for example, if you are in a distress. You are travelling on a highway, and between Ore and Ijebu-Igbo, you suddenly had a flat tyre with no extra one. All your efforts to stop a vehicle to ask for help were in vain. Then, you got a call from someone you know telling you he saw you standing by the road and asked how he can be of help, and within a few minutes, the person shows up with a new tyre. How would you feel? Your mind will be calm; your hope will be rekindled. If you are reading this, God is about to restore your hope again.
Going back to our opening scripture, the Bible said Jesus entered into a city and a woman ran to meet Him to help her daughter that had been tormented by an evil spirit. But Jesus didn’t respond to her nor give her attention. But she kept following Jesus until His disciples said, Master let us ask this woman to go back. So, Jesus said to her, I can’t give food meant for children to dogs. Meaning Jesus referred to her as a dog, but she was not offended. She then replied, “Even dogs eat from the crumbs that falls from the children’s table.” Jesus turned back and said great is thy faith, be it unto thee even as thy faith will and her daughter was made whole that same moment.
You can’t get help, if you don’t pass your test. Jesus tested the woman by referring to her as a dog. One who needs help from God doesn’t get angry at the church or the pastor. He doesn’t look at how he was treated by people. Whether you are insulted or not, you’ll bear it until you get help.
Be wise like this woman, so you can get the help you need in the coming year, because help is always with you. Be humble and follow instructions. Also, learn to give a helping hand to people, because you don’t know where you’ll meet them in future. Your children might even be the benefactors of the help you gave someone today. Don’t be self-centred. The only thing you owe people is to show kindness.
