Global statistics on fixed line telephony from the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), revealed that as at 2000, Nigeria had 553,374 fixed telephony lines. Interestingly, the number went up to 1,050,237 by 2010, but it started the journey to extinction by 2011, falling to 719,406 users.
