Nigeria is taking bold steps toward a digitally empowered future as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) spearheads the migration of government institutions to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This initiative signals the country’s commitment to modernising its digital infrastructure, ensuring that Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) are equipped to deliver secure, efficient, and future-ready public services.
The IPv6 migration training, now underway across MDAs, marked a critical milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda. By preparing government agencies to adopt the next-generation Internet protocol, NITDA said it was not only addressing the limitations of IPv4 but also positioning Nigeria to harness emerging technologies, strengthen cybersecurity, and expand access to inclusive digital services for citizens nationwide.
NITDA Director General, Kashifu Inuwa, yesterday, in Abuja, urged executive-level officials of MDAs to support Nigeria’s transition from IPv4 to IPv6, describing the shift as essential to expanding digital public services and strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure.
Inuwa, at the IPv6 migration readiness workshop organised by the NITDA in collaboration with the Nigeria IPv6 Council and the African Network Information Centre (AFRINIC) for executive and technical staff of MDAs, stressed the importance of the migration to Nigeria’s digital transformation.
Represented by Director of the Agency’s Digital Development Services Department, Oladejo Olawumi, Inuwa said migration must be attained so that Nigeria will not be left behind.
