INEC issues certificate of return to Kogi assembly members-elect
The Resident Electoral Commissioner Hussain I Halilu Pai said 24 out of the 25 members-elect would receive their certificates of return adding that the certificate for the member elect for Ajaokuta constituency would be issued in due course.
He said because supplementary election in the constituency happened on 28th of April 2015 his certificate was not signed jointly with those of his colleagues by the INEC chairman before he traveled out of the country.
He said the occasion was important to confirm and provide evidence to the recipients and the general public as to who the winners of the general elections are in line with the electoral act.
“It is congratulate the winners of the elections and wish them God’s guidance in the task of governing the state and the country at large.
“It is to commend the good lovers of the election for their sportsmanship in accepting the out come if the election gallantly. There can not be democracy without competitive periodic elections in which there must be winners and losers.”
He however, frowned at some of the intervening variables mainly violence that has become a domineering factor in the electoral process even as he charged all the stake holders in the process to work together to address the intervening variables so as to improve the process. Cultural display and other interludes added colour to the event.
