Kano police declare ex-commissioner wanted for allegedly aid

A former Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, Alhaji Musa Iliasu Kwankwaso, has been declared wanted by the state Police Command for alleged electoral offence.

Kwankwaso, who was a commissioner under the regime of Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, was alleged to have sponsored some political thugs to disrupt the gubernatorial election at Madobi local council. 
 

The Commissioner of Police in Kano, Ibrahim Idris, disclosed this to journalists at the Command headquarters in Bompai, disclosing that some thugs were arrested for destroying and burning election materials. They were also arrested for the possession of dangerous weapons at Kauran Mata ward. 
 

“At about 0700hrs when the INEC supervisor was sharing election materials at Kauran Mata Registration Area Centre (RAC) in Madobi local council before distributing to various polling stations, one Hussaini Ibrahim of Kauran Mata village, the chairman of PDP Vanguard in the area, who introduced himself to the INEC supervisor, snatched ballot papers and tore them. He, with 18 others all of same address armed with dangerous weapons, snatched and set ablaze 4,015 ballot papers meant for the governorship and state Assembly elections.”
  

The suspects mentioned one Musa Iliasu Kwankwaso as their sponsor. Detectives from SCID stormed his house but he escaped. “We are still searching for him and four others still at large.”
  

Other INEC ad-hoc staff were also arrested for electoral misconduct at Takai local council.
He added that part of the arrest made was INEC ad-hoc staff for misconduct at Takai council, Aisha Zubairu, who was the Presiding Officer of Kurido Polling Unit No. 009 Karfi ward, Sabiu Sulaiman and Hamisu Murtala all INEC ad-hoc staff on election duty at Takai for conspiring and diverting materials to Aisha’s personal residence in the town.
Idris also disclosed that one Muhammad Ishaku of Yankaba quarters abandoned his polling unit and entered a hospital where he was caught thumb printing 53 gubernatorial ballot papers and 16 House of Assembly ballot papers.
