A year after the setting up of the Delta State Universities Planning Committee; some committee members have been elevated to the position of Pro-chancellors of the new universities.

The University of Science and Technology, Ozoro has Chief Godson Echejile as Chairman/Pro-chancellor while Professor Robert Ikomi is the Chairman/Pro-chancellor of Dennis Osadebey University, Anwai-Asaba University of Delta, Agbor has Professor E.A.C. Nwanze as Pro-chancellor.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2021 approved the upgrading of three existing institutions to universities in Delta State.
