Again, unknown gunmen storm Imo communities, set vehicles ablaze

Gunmen.

Gunmen, yesterday morning, stormed communities in Ihitte-Uboma and Obowo Local Councils in Imo State and set some vehicles and motorcycles ablaze.

They also created fears on registrants, who were on their way to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who were distributing PVCs in Obowo, were reportedly afraid. At press time, there was no record of casualty.

Recall that gunmen invaded the area a few months ago, during the last INEC registration exercise, killing a staff member of the commission and forcing the registrants to lie down, facing down until the duration of the operation.

At the wee hours of last Monday, yet -to- be -identified gunmen, numbering about 30 scaled through a fence and invaded the headquarters of the Commission on Port Harcourt Road, Owerri, setting a building, part of the main office and two Hilux vehicles on fire. In their efforts to repel the attackers, a policeman lost his life, while two of the hoodlums were killed, and some captured alive.
