Rivers Assembly okays four commissioner nominees
The Rivers State House of Assembly led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, has confirmed four new commissioner nominees to join the Rivers State Executive Council.
The nominees, Dr. Israel Lebura Ngbuelu, Evans Bapakaye Bipi, Barrister Otamiri Ngubo, and Barrister Benebo Anabraba, were screened and ratified following a request from Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
During the debate, House Leader, Sokari Goodboy Sokari noted that three of the nominees were former members of the House and didn’t require questioning, while the fourth had recently been screened as a caretaker committee chairman.
Sokari urged the House to confirm the nominees, a sentiment echoed by Deputy Speaker Timothy Orubienimigha.
After the debate, the Speaker, Oko-Jumbo put the nominees to a voice vote, confirming their appointments.
Oko-Jumbo highlighted the nominees’ proven track records, with three having served in the Rivers State House of Assembly for at least eight years and the fourth having served as a caretaker committee chairman.
The Speaker said that their ratification is a call to service, advising them to not only continue serving the state but also to demonstrate loyalty to the State Government.
Interestingly, three of the nominees, being former members of the House, were asked to take a bow and leave the chambers.
