Ondo LG Polls: ODIEC cancels Ondo West election
The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has cancelled the election in Ondo West Local Government Area (LGA).
ODIEC Chairman, Joseph Aremo, revealed that the election was cancelled after an outdated version of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) logo was spotted on the ballot paper.
Aremo confirmed that the election has been rescheduled to January 19.
“The new logo of the party was approved late last year, and the process was ongoing. It is not as if we just started. We could have expected the party to draw our attention to the discrepancy earlier,” Aremo said.
He stated that the commission would ensure the election takes place with the party’s updated logo to “uphold credibility and fairness.”
Aremo explained that although the party had formally raised concerns about the matter, preparations for the election had been ongoing before the new logo was approved.
He assured the public that the commission would finalise all arrangements before the rescheduled poll, adding that results from other councils would not be affected.
Aremo, therefore, urged residents of Ondo West to remain peaceful and participate in the upcoming process.
“No similar complaints were received from other local government areas. Field officers’ reviews confirmed that the issue was exclusive to Ondo West,” he said.
“This decision ensures that all political parties have equal opportunities in the process.”
