As Nigeria steps into 2025, the nation celebrates a landmark year in freestyle football. The past year has witnessed major breakthroughs, a historic resurgence, and international acclaim—proving that Nigeria is fast emerging as a global force in the sport.

After a four-year hiatus, freestyle football made a triumphant return with the Predator Energy Nigeria Freestyle Football Championship on 21 September 2024 at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Lagos. More than a competition, the event was a vibrant festival of skill, passion, and innovation that united the country’s most talented freestylers. With thousands of fans attending live and millions engaging online, the championship demonstrated that freestyle football in Nigeria is bigger and bolder than ever.

The tournament crowned Ezeakabukudu BlessedChild as Male Champion and Evelyn Okafor as Female Champion. Each victor received ₦1.5 million, a brand ambassadorship, and the opportunity to represent Nigeria at Freestyle Connect Africa 2.0 in Algeria. Valentine Chineto Ozigbo, Chairman of Feet ‘N’ Tricks and a Director on the Board of the World Freestyle Football Association (WFFA), emphasised the broader impact of the championship. He noted that freestyle football transcends sport, becoming an art form and a powerful vehicle for youth empowerment.

“Freestyle football is more than just a sport—it is an art, a movement, and a powerful tool for youth empowerment. The success of the 2024 Predator Energy Nigeria Freestyle Football Championship proves that the demand for freestyle football is growing, and we are committed to pushing its boundaries even further. Our vision is to make Nigeria the epicenter of freestyle football in Africa, creating platforms for young talents to shine on the world stage,” he said.

Nigeria’s prominence was further established at Freestyle Connect Africa 2.0 in Algiers, one of the continent’s premier freestyle football events. Competing against 24 of Africa’s finest freestylers for a US$20,000 prize pool and continental supremacy, Nigeria’s top performers showcased their exceptional talent. The event, held as part of Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX), also featured a high-profile panel discussion on the economic and cultural potential of freestyle football, with Ozigbo sharing the stage alongside luminaries from the Basketball Africa League and Afreximbank.

Looking ahead to 2025, the momentum in freestyle football is set to continue. Organisers plan to expand the Predator Energy Nigeria Freestyle Football Championship, reaching a broader spectrum of freestylers across the country, while increasing international participation by inviting global talent to compete on Nigerian soil. There is also a drive to enhance sponsorship and partnership opportunities, offering brands an even more significant platform to engage with the sport’s passionate audience.

Valentine Ozigbo reaffirmed the commitment of Feet ‘N’ Tricks to making freestyle football a household name across Africa. “Freestyle football is a sport with limitless potential, and in 2025 we aim to build on the momentum by creating more opportunities for young freestylers to compete, learn, and be celebrated,” he declared.
