Police nab two suspected kidnappers in Yobe

The Yobe Police Command has arrested two notorious kidnappers in Badegana Village of Bursari Local Council of the state. According to the command, the kidnappers were also linked to various crimes committed in the Dapchi-Babangids axis.

Confirming the development in a statement yesterday, the spokesperson for the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the suspects – Babaro Baushe, 40, and Umaru Dau’a, 25, were arrested when they attacked Badegana village on November 21, 2024. He added that the duo later on March 10, 2025, abducted Kudi Ibrahim in Askuwari village in Tarmuwa Local Council.

Besides the abduction of Ibrahim, the kidnappers forcefully collected a N250,000 ransom from their victim. “The patrol team of Dapchi Divisional Police Headquarters along Damaturu-Gashua road, eventually arrested the suspects on April 9, 2025, at about 5:00 a.m.

“The suspects have confessed to the crimes committed, while investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Damaturu,” he said.

Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Christopher Ado has directed officers to arrest other members of the kidnapping syndicate, which has been operating in the Dapchi-Babangida axis for the last two years.

He also urged members of the affected communities to provide credible information to the police for prompt action against kidnapping and other crimes in the state.
