In a colorful celebration of Jamaican heritage and faith, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Throne House, Abuja, on Sunday held a special intercessory service to mark Jamaica’s 63rd Independence Day.
The event, themed “Bold, Black, and Gold”, combined solemn prayers with vibrant cultural displays. Worshippers thronged the sanctuary in the Jamaican national colors—black, green, and gold—while the auditorium was adorned with symbolic decorations.
Parish Pastor, Tunde Benjamin Laniyi, delivered a stirring message, explaining that the theme reflected Jamaica’s strength, wealth, and courage.
“Black signifies the resilience of a people who have overcome immense challenges; gold represents the richness of their land and spirit; while bold embodies their courage and audacity to pursue greatness,” he said.
The congregation offered prayers for Jamaica’s leaders, economy, peace, and cultural preservation, with Pastor Laniyi urging unity at home and in the diaspora. “Let us pray for a new season of divine favor and prosperity for Jamaica,” he declared.
The service featured passionate intercessions, gospel music, and traditional Jamaican hymns, culminating in a benediction in which Pastor Laniyi blessed Jamaica and expressed hope for the nation’s continued progress.
Earlier, Jamaica’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, His Excellency Lincoln Downer, delivered a goodwill message at the thanksgiving service. He highlighted the deep historical ties between Nigeria and Jamaica, celebrating their shared heritage, cultural legacy, and struggles for self-determination.
Downer lauded Jamaica’s achievements in music, athletics, and global diplomacy, while calling for greater collaboration with Nigeria in trade, tourism, and education. He also urged younger generations to embrace their heritage and contribute to national development.
The celebration, attended by members of the Jamaican diaspora, Nigerian officials, and community leaders, reaffirmed the strong diplomatic and cultural bonds between both nations.
