Police foil robbery attempt, recover suspects’ vehicle in Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a robbery attempt in the Sagamu area of the state and recovered the suspects’ operational vehicle, following a swift response by officers of the Sakura Division.

Spokesperson for the command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Omolola Odutola, said the incident occurred in the early hours of yesterday after a distress call was received from the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman of Okearedi, Araromi, off the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway.

According to her, about five hoodlums attempted to force their way into a residence within the community before police operatives were alerted.

“On sighting the patrol team, the hoodlums fled in different directions, prompting a hot chase by the police. The suspects’ operational vehicle, a black Lexus GS 350 with registration number Ogun TTD 452 TT, was recovered at the entrance of the community,” Odutola said.

She added that a search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of fireworks (knockouts), suspected to have been intended for use as a distraction during the operation.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the officers for their professionalism and timely response. He said the command had intensified security measures by deploying more personnel to identified flashpoints across the state as part of efforts to ensure safety during the festive period.

Ogunlowo assured residents of sustained police visibility and proactive response to distress calls, urging members of the public to remain vigilant, especially when returning home late at night.

He also advised residents to illuminate dark or isolated areas around their homes to deter criminal activities.
