Institute to honour Kadiri, explore safety measures at lecture

Plans are underway by the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Ogun State Chapter, to honour the achievements of Africa’s foremost town planner, Waheed Kadiri, at its yearly lecture.

Kadiri is the Principal Partner at Kadiri Associates Limited, former President of Nigerian Institution of Town Planners, Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON) and former Chairman, African Planning Association. He was also a two-term Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.

The event, the 12th Waheed Lecture Series, organised by the Ogun State Chapter of NITP, is expected to attract experts and decision-makers from the public and private sectors on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to discuss how engineering and planning could help to enhance national security.

Chairman of the event organising committee, Oladunjoye Arowosegbe, said the choice of topic for the lecture series was part of the institute’s contributions towards the development of the country.

He noted that the core objective of planning was to ensure a harmonious living environment where individuals could sustainably attain self-fulfilment, hence the need to focus on insecurity, which he said has remained a major concern nationwide.

Arowosegbe said the discussion would focus on ‘Designing Safer Nigeria: Engineering, Planning and the Fight Against Insecurity’, at Ogun Pensioners Hall, NITP Ogun State Secretariat, Abeokuta.

He said the Vice Chancellor, Bells University of Technology, Prof. Jeremiah Ojediran, is expected as the guest speaker.
