A vulcaniser has reportedly lost his life after a truck lost control and rammed into a stationary truck on the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State.
Two other persons also sustained injuries in the accident.
Eyewitnesses said the victim was fixing the tyre of the stationary truck along the highway when the truck crashed into it, killing him on the spot.
The incident involved a lemon-coloured MAN Diesel truck with registration number PKA 923 YR and a white Howo truck with an unknown registration number.
The spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, said three persons, all males, were involved in the crash, with one person dead and two others injured.
He said the accident was caused by a tyre burst on the MAN Diesel truck, whose driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the stationary Howo truck, killing the vulcaniser who was repairing its tyre by the roadside.
Akinbiyi added that operatives of TRACE and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were on the ground for rescue operations.
According to him, the two injured victims have been taken to General Hospital, Ifo, while the corpse has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
He said the vehicles involved had been towed to Papa Oscar yard for further investigation, adding that traffic on the road was not affected.
