The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and the Ogun State Government have strengthened collaboration to fast-track the development of the Gateway Inland Dry Port project in the state.

The Executive Secretary of the Council, Pius Akutah, who led the Council’s management team on a courtesy visit to the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, in Abeokuta, commended the state government’s commitment to the project and expressed optimism that its development would soon become a reality.

Akutah reiterated the Council’s mandate to promote the seamless movement of cargo and ensure ease of doing business across the country, noting that inland dry ports remain critical infrastructure for decongesting seaports and improving trade logistics.

We desire to promote critical transport infrastructure like an inland dry port, which you have thrown your weight behind. I know we will achieve it before your tenure comes to an end. We have legacy dry ports across Nigeria. Many of them are moving slowly, but Ogun State is different. This is the reason we always use the Ogun dry port project as an example whenever we are discussing,” he said.

Earlier, the Governor appreciated the management of the NSC for the visit, stating that the development of the Gateway Inland Dry Port is key to the government.

Abiodun also added that the operation of the dry port will address the bottlenecks of bringing raw materials from Lagos state.
