Head Coach of Rulers Football Club of Abuja, Roland Aigbovbiosa, says the club is expanding its scope in grassroots football development with multiple teams across the Federal Capital Territory.
While Rulers FC senior team operates in Funtaj, Kuje, the junior teams operates at Holy Family, Kuje, and Basic Estate, Lokogoma.
Coach Aigbovbiosa told The Guardian that the club main focus is nurturing and developing basic skill in young players to expose them with other clubs within and outside the country.
“We are open to anybody who has interest in developing young footballers in Abuja,” he said. “At Rulers Football Club, our priority is the nurture and give young players the platform to excel. Our training sessions are structured to accommodate young players across these centres,” he stated.
According to coach Aigbovbiosa, training at Basic Estate, Lokogoma, holds every Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday at 7:45 a.m., just as training sessions at Holy Family, Kuje, take place on Saturdays at 7:45 a.m. and Sundays at 3:30 p.m.
“This programme is open to both male and female players, and this reflects our club’s inclusive approach to youth development.
While Darius Ewere is captain of the Lokogoma side, Jason Ezinkwo leads the Kuje team.
Recently, Rulers Football Club was launched in Abuja, a ceremony which attracted notable sports administrators, including former Super Eagles captain, Austin Eguavoen.
“Rulers Football Club is committed to exposing young players to high-level training drills from an early age,” he said.
The approach is already yielding positive results, following the team’s impressive outings in recent matches. They defeated Vallyd Ella FC 3-1 and beat Divine Touch senior team 3-2 Rulers FC also handed a 3-0 defeat to Divine Touch junior team.
“We plan to engage in more competitive fixtures, including potential matches against established sides, including Pepsi Football Academy,” the coach said.
Aigbovbiosa urged parents and guardians register their children at any of the club’s training locations development initiative.
He expressed appreciation the Chief Executive Officer of I-XTRA for his donation of sets of jersey to the club. Aigbovbiosa also thanked Dr. Blessing Ayemhere for his humanitarian support for Rulers Football Club.
