Senator Lawan drops Borno governorship aspiration, backs Gubio to contest election

Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, representing Borno Central Senatorial District, has dropped his gubernatorial aspiration for Engineer. Mustapha Gubio as the consensus governorship candidate to run in 2027 on the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.

The State’s political development, followed a strategic extensive stakeholders’ deliberation and intervention by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima and other key stakeholders in the three senatorial districts of Borno state

According to the statement released over the weekend in Maiduguri, the decision to unanimously adopt for a consensus credible candidate was taken by the party’s stakeholders by giving preference to unity as paramount in the sustenance of “peace and internal democracy” for stability to win more elections at the 2027 general elections in the state.

The stakeholders meeting, which was held on Thursday night, was convened and chaired by Vice-President Shettima and attended by Governor Babagana Zulum; former civilan governor, Senator Maina Ma’aji Lawan; Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur; APC Deputy National Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori; Senators Mohammed Tahir Monguno and Mohammed Ali Ndume; Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan; Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari; Mukhtar Betara Aliyu and Abdulkadir Rahis.

“Thete was a resolution taken for the sake of peace, unity and strengthening the political harmony within the APC family in Borno State,” added.the statement.

The statement also noted that Senator Lawan, therefore called on his supporters and the people of the state to eschew bitterness and accept the decision in good faith, while retaining his seat as the Senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District.

He also urged them to come out en masse to receive a delegation led by Governor Zulum, APC candidates and other political stakeholders in Maiduguri on Friday.

“The reception is another renewal of our mandate in ensuring the growth and development of Borno State, and Nigeria as a whole,” said the statement.

Lawan also congratulated Engr. Gubio, the consensus gubernatorial candidate, and other APC candidates, expressing hope for the party’s victory.at the 2027 polls. End.
