The Delta State Police Command has arrested 202 suspects during an intelligence-led operation targeting criminal hideouts, brothels and suspected drug dens across the Asaba metropolis.

The operation, conducted on Saturday, July 4, 2026, formed part of the command’s sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal elements. It was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, alongside other officers, following credible intelligence generated by the State Intelligence Department.

Confirming the operation, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, said operatives raided identified black spots, brothels and locations suspected to be used for the sale and consumption of illicit drugs within Asaba, the state capital.

He said the operation led to the arrest of 202 suspects, comprising 102 men and 100 women, over alleged offences ranging from operating illegal brothels to the possession and sale of suspected illicit drugs, as well as other related criminal activities.

Edafe added that the police impounded five vehicles, 10 tricycles and 10 motorcycles for violating extant traffic regulations, the Delta State Government’s restriction on tricycle operations and the ban on motorcycles in designated parts of the metropolis.

According to him, the exercise forms part of a broader strategy to dismantle criminal networks, curb the proliferation of illicit drugs and enhance public safety across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained enforcement against all forms of criminality.

He assured residents that the command would continue to intensify proactive operations aimed at denying criminals safe havens anywhere in the state, stressing that it remains committed to protecting lives and property through effective policing.

Oyeniyi also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to aid the prevention and detection of crime.
