Radio station signs agreement with IITA to build farmers capacity

Zuma Agric Radio station (88.5 FM) has signed an agreement with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) to expand farmers access to agricultural knowledge, and empower rural communities across Nigeria.

The partnership will enable both institutions to develop and co-produce agricultural radio programmes, co-brand regular Radio IITA–Zuma FM segments, and collaborate on farmer and youth training initiatives.

Speaking on the  Managing Director of Zuma Agric Radio Shuaibu Ahmed explained that as part of the agreement, IITA will participate as a technical partner in the annual Zuma Agricultural Harvest Festival through exhibitions, expert presentations, and live broadcast collaborations, while Zuma Agric Radio will provide studio facilities, airtime, production support, community outreach, field recordings, and media coverage across Niger State and the Federal Capital Territory.

He said the collaboration will bring together IITA’s world-class agricultural research and Zuma Agric Radio’s deep roots within rural communities to ensure that practical, research-driven solutions reach the farmers who need them most.”

Ahmed said the partnership reinforces Zuma Agric Radio’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading rural broadcasting and agricultural extension platforms, using radio, community engagement, and practical training to improve livelihoods and promote sustainable agriculture.

According to him, participants in selected training programmes will receive joint IITA–Zuma certificates.
