Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Chairman of the 5th Committee on Budgetary and Administrative Matters, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, has advised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to tender an apology to the Oriire schoolchildren who recently regained freedom from the den of kidnappers.
This was after Makinde called on the United Nations to investigate the abduction of the schoolchildren and their teachers.
Reacting, Ibrahim reminded the governor that the United Nations does not intervene in the internal affairs of member states, nor does it engage in domestic matters.
He urged the governor to show empathy, apologise for the lack of adequate security in Oyo State and uphold good governance at the local level.
Ibrahim also advised Makinde to provide scholarships to the children and support for their teachers, including the families of those who were killed by the terrorists
The UN envoy then congratulated Nigerians on the safe rescue of the victims and urged state governments to prioritise security.
