The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Cross River State has set a target of at least 2.5 million registered voters ahead of the 2027 general elections,

IPAC urged eligible residents to take advantage of the final phase of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The state chairman of IPAC, Engr. Effiom Edet Okon, disclosed this at a press conference in Calabar on Saturday, saying the council had intensified mobilisation across the state’s 18 local government areas to boost voter registration and participation.

According to him, increasing the number of registered voters would strengthen Cross River’s political relevance and democratic influence at the national level.

“A higher voter population means a stronger democratic mandate, greater political relevance, increased national recognition and a louder voice for Cross River State in determining the future of Nigeria,” he said.

Okon said the council was working with INEC, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, religious leaders and market associations to encourage eligible residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

He noted that the mobilisation drive is anchored on the campaign slogan, “No Voter’s Card, No Voice; No Registration, No Participation,” stressing that active participation in the electoral process is essential to deepening democracy.

The IPAC chairman also commended Governor Bassey Otu for supporting the council’s activities, saying the provision of an operational vehicle, a furnished secretariat and regular engagement with political parties had strengthened its operations.

He said the council would continue to collaborate with the state government in promoting peaceful politics, political stability and democratic governance.

Okon appealed to parents, youth groups and community leaders to encourage eligible citizens to register before the close of the CVR exercise, while also commending INEC officials for their efforts in conducting the exercise.
He warned against voter apathy, insisting that every eligible citizen should register and participate in the electoral process.

“Let no one stay away because they believe their vote will not count. Every Permanent Voter’s Card is a tool for strengthening democracy,” he said.
