The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has warned customers to disregard a fraudulent message circulating on social media claiming that electricity consumers can receive an additional 20 percent bonus units when recharging their prepaid meters through unofficial channels.

In a statement issued on Monday, the company’s management described the claim as false, stressing that it did not originate from YEDC and should be ignored.

The company clarified that it does not offer bonus electricity units through individuals, agents, personal bank accounts, phone numbers, or social media contacts.

YEDC advised customers to purchase electricity tokens only through approved cashless payment platforms, including the YEDC Pay App, OPay, Interswitch, and other authorized vending channels. It also urged customers who require assistance to visit the nearest YEDC office.

The electricity distribution company further cautioned customers against sharing their meter details or personal information, or making payments to unauthorized individuals claiming to represent the company.

It urged customers to rely solely on information released through its official communication channels to avoid falling victim to fraud.

Applauding customers for their continued cooperation, the company reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable services.
