Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), Ondo State chapter, on Monday embarked on the mobilisation of women across the state in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 election, with a pledge to deliver over one million votes.

The women, who converged in Akure, the state capital, from the 18 local council areas of the state to endorse Tinubu for another term in office, stated that the move became imperative following what they described as the outstanding performance.

Speaking at the event, the Director General of GMT in the state, Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, who described the gathering as a celebration of President Tinubu’s achievements, stated that the women were present to show appreciation for the administration’s efforts, which they believe warrant a second term.

Yusuf-Ogunleye emphasised that GMT has rolled out a series of initiatives to build goodwill and support for Tinubu, including free medical outreaches, distribution of eyeglasses, sports activities, and community engagements targeting various ethnic groups across the state.

The GMT Director-General added that the group has visited several local government areas with plans to extend its reach to Ebira, Hausa, and Igbo communities in the state.

He said, “We are looking for more than one million votes. It is nothing less than one million votes because we must demonstrate capacity. We must try as much as possible to improve on where we were the last time.

“Ondo State gave one of the highest numbers of votes the last time. We want to repeat the same feat and record even more than we did before. That is why we have started mobilising and telling the people of Ondo State about what Mr President has done.

“For us, that is why we are embarking on various programmes, adding value to what Mr President has done and taking this message to all parts of Ondo State so that we can spread the message to our people.”

The Director of Women for GMT, Olamide Falana, explained that the gathering was part of a deliberate effort to reach women who are key grassroots mobilisers and canvassers in the state.

On his part, the secretary of GMT, Rasheed Badmus, harped on the contributions of the minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, whom he praised for his role in uniting the party and driving development in the state.

“We have a lot of reasons for endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term. For us in Ondo State, we appreciate him so much for giving us three ministerial positions. The state is also benefiting from the infrastructural development of President Tinubu.

“Our own Honourable Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has been so marvellous to the people of Ondo State.”
