The Katsina State Police Command has said it successfully foiled an attack by suspected armed bandits and neutralized one suspect at Sabon Gulbi village, in Musawa Local Government Area.

A statement by spokesperson for the command, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, said the incident occured on Wednesday at about 5pm.

Aliyu said a disress call prompted police and local security operatives to move to scene of incident where a gunfire exchange ensued.

He said in addition to neturalizing the suspect, a thorough sweep of the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, one ammunition magazine containing five live rounds, and an operational motorcycle.

“On July 29, 2026, at about 5:00 PM, a distress call was received at the Musawa Division that a gang of armed bandits, wielding dangerous weapons, had invaded Sabon Gulbi Village.

“Upon receipt of the information, the DPO, Musawa, swiftly led a joint tactical team comprising Police operatives and personnel of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) to the scene.

“On arrival at the scene, the team engaged the armed bandits in a heavy gun duel, successfully repelling the attack. During the encounter, one bandit was neutralized, while several others fled the scene with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

“Following a thorough sweep of the area, the following items were successfully recovered:
one AK-47 Rifle, one ammunition magazine containing five live rounds and, one operational motorcycle

“Efforts are being intensified to track and arrest the fleeing suspects.

“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended the gallantry, courage, and synergy exhibited by the operatives, as he equally lauded the timely intelligence that enabled a swift and decisive response.

“The CP further reassures the good people of the State of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He urges the public to remain vigilant and quickly report suspicious activities to the nearest division.”
