The Ogun State Police Command is investigating two separate incidents in which women allegedly died at the hands of their husbands during domestic disputes, while also probing an alleged gang rape involving a 19-year-old woman in Ijebu-Igbo.

In one of the latest incidents, police operatives at Kemta Division arrested a man, Tajudeen Yekini, over the alleged killing of his wife, Toyin Edunjobi, at their residence in Ogungbade Village, near Ayerose, in Obafemi-Owode Local Council of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, after the couple’s son raised the alarm.

Neighbours who responded to the alarm reportedly found Edunjobi lying motionless inside the apartment and alerted the police.

Detectives from the Kemta Division subsequently visited the scene, evacuated the woman’s body and deposited it at a mortuary for preservation and further examination.

The husband was arrested and taken into police custody as investigation into the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death continued.

The incident came less than 24 hours after another suspected case of domestic violence in Ibogun Akinode community, where a man identified as Odukoya Bidemi allegedly killed his wife, Adenike, following an argument.

The incident was reported to the police at about 2:00a.m. on August 31, 2026.

Bidemi allegedly assaulted his wife during the disagreement, which reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation. Adenike subsequently died from injuries sustained during the incident.

Following the report, detectives from Ibogun Police Division visited the scene and evacuated the deceased’s remains to the mortuary at Ifo General Hospital for post-mortem examination.

However, the investigation took another tragic turn when the police were informed that Bidemi had allegedly been involved in a fatal road accident while fleeing the area.

He was reportedly knocked down at Iyana Coker Bus Stop along the Ifo axis in a motor vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident and died at the scene.

Police detectives later visited the morgue where the accident victim’s body had been deposited. Photographs were taken to establish his identity, after which the police confirmed that the deceased was Bidemi, the man earlier accused of killing his wife.

Meanwhile, the family of Adenike has reportedly approached the police to request the release of her remains for burial.

While detectives continue to investigate the two domestic violence-related deaths, the command is also pursuing a separate case of alleged sexual violence in Ijebu-Igbo.

A 20-year-old man, Ayomide Kamula, has been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old woman in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo, with police launching a manhunt for his alleged accomplice, identified as Boye Balogun.

The victim’s mother reportedly lodged a formal complaint at the police station at about 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, stating that the incident occurred on August 30 at their residence in Odo Idi Scale, Oke Sopen.

Police operatives who received the complaint immediately visited the scene to gather evidence and commenced investigation.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Abeokuta.

He said the victim was taken to a General Hospital for medical examination and care, with the appropriate Police Medical Form provided as part of the investigation.

According to him, preliminary investigation led to the arrest of Kamula, who remains in police custody and is assisting detectives with the investigation.

Babaseyi said the command had intensified intelligence-led operations to apprehend Balogun, who remains at large.

The case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the alleged sexual assault, describing sexual and gender-based violence as a serious crime that would not be tolerated.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance policy towards sexual offences and assured the victim’s family and the public that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly and discreetly.

He also vowed that the police would pursue the fleeing suspect and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
