With the expiration of 21 days window for appeal against the declaration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun as the winner of August 15 gubernatorial election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its standard bearer, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, have failed to file petition against the exercise at the Election Petition Tribunal, in Osogbo.

Findings by The Guardian indicate that as of the close of official business on Friday and Saturday, the  Election Tribunal, located within the premises of Osun State High Court, Osogbo, had not received any petition disputing the results of the poll.

It is recalled that Adeleke, who won re-election on the platform of Accord,had polled 511,067 votes to defeat his main challenger, Oyebamiji, who garnered 444,815 votes.

However, after the expiration of 21 days as stipulated by the Electoral Act 2025 (As Amended) for political parties and candidates, who participated in the poll to challenge its outcome, APC, its candidate or any other political party failed to file petition at the Election Tribunal.

When our correspondent visited the venue of the tribunal on Sunday, APC and its flag bearer, Oyebamiji had not submitted any petition to challenge Adeleke’s declaration as the winner of the keenly contested off-cycle election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Shortly after the poll, the APC had constituted a team of legal practitioners to review the results, promising to take necessary action after due consultation with relevant stakeholders.

But Oyebamiji on August 29, congratulated Governor Adeleke over his re-election, urging the governor to checkmate post-election violence and alleged attacks on APC members in some parts of the state.

When contacted,the APC’s director of media and information, Kola Olabisi, promised to get back to our correspondent. Similarly, efforts to get the reaction of Oyebamiji were unsuccessful as one of his aides told our correspondent that he is currently at Saudi Arabia for lesser Hajj.

An official of the Tribunal, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed to the The Guardian that no petition had been filed to challenge the winner of August 15 gubernatorial election in Osun State.

He stated, “As at Close of Business(CoB) last week Friday and even on Saturday, we have not received any petition being filed by APC or any other defeated political party, numbering 15, in the last Osun governorship election.”

With the absence of any petition filed by anybody as at the completion of 21 Days window stipulated by Electoral Act, any activity or reaction on August 15, 2026 Gubernatorial Election in Osun State had been officially closed and the outcome of the exercise is final and binding on everybody.
