The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Taraba state, Professor Jerome Nyameh, has called on politicians and their supporters to embrace decent language, uphold moral values and respect electoral laws ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nyameh made the call in Jalingo during a one-day workshop on political campaign ethics and electoral laws organised by the Professor Jerome Nyameh Youth Support Group.

He stressed the need for political actors to conduct themselves responsibly, noting that the use of decent language and strict adherence to electoral regulations were critical to maintaining peace and strengthening democratic development.

The Accord Party candidate maintained that politicians and their supporters must respect the moral values that promote peaceful coexistence, warning against actions and utterances capable of heating up the political atmosphere.

The workshop attracted participants from the 16 local government areas of the state, as well as the two Special Development Areas, as part of efforts to deepen grassroots awareness of electoral laws and ethical political conduct.

According to Nyameh, the programme was designed as a relay initiative, with participants expected to return to their respective local government areas to organise similar sensitisation exercises for ward representatives.

He explained that the initiative was aimed at promoting responsible political participation, discouraging inflammatory statements and encouraging peaceful engagement before, during and after the 2027 elections.

Some participants who spoke with our correspondent described the workshop as timely, pledging to ensure that their political activities did not encourage violence or trigger unrest throughout the electoral process.

They also called on other governorship candidates, particularly those from different political parties, to emulate the initiative by educating their supporters on the importance of peaceful political participation.

The participants commended Nyameh for what they described as his sustained efforts to sensitise eligible voters and political supporters on the need to uphold peace and democratic values ahead of the 2027 general elections.
