The Delta State Police Command has recovered a locally made firearm following a dawn home invasion in Effurun and arrested a suspected drug peddler in a separate operation in Agbor.

The operations also led to the seizure of quantities of substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed this yesterday in Asaba, said the home invasion occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on September 4, 2026, in the Charlisco area along NPA Express Road, Effurun.

According to him, two masked men, allegedly armed with a locally made shotgun, broke into the residence of a 48-year-old man.

Edafe said the victim confronted one of the intruders and engaged him in a struggle for control of the firearm.
During the struggle, the shotgun reportedly broke, forcing the suspects to abandon it and flee. However, the second suspect allegedly struck the victim on the forehead before escaping with his accomplice.

The incident was reported at the Ekpan Police Division at about 6:14 a.m., prompting the Divisional Police Officer to deploy operatives to the scene.

The police recovered the broken firearm, while the injured victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Edafe said a manhunt had commenced for the fleeing suspects, adding that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend them.

In a separate operation in Agbor, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU), Ubulu-Uku, arrested a 40-year-old woman, identified as Joy Anthony, for alleged involvement in the illicit drug trade.

The police spokesperson said the arrest was made at about 5:00 a.m. on September 6 following credible intelligence.

e said the operatives conducted a covert operation in Agbor before executing a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in Agbor-Obi.

During the search, the police allegedly recovered quantities of substances identified as Swinol, Tramadol, Codeine, Canadian Loud and weeds suspected to be Cannabis sativa.

Edafe said the suspect and the recovered exhibits had been taken into custody as investigation continued into her alleged involvement in the drug trade.

The Commissioner of Police commended the Effurun resident for his bravery in confronting the armed intruders, despite the danger involved.

He assured the victim and residents of the area that the command would intensify efforts to track down the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.

The command urged anyone with useful information about the Effurun suspects or other criminal activities to contact the nearest police station or the Delta State Police Command Control Room.

The commissioner also called on residents to continue providing credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in preventing and combating crime across the state.
