The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has arrested a 42-year-old farmer, Geniu Agbajo, for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl in Ipokia Local Council of the state.

The police have also warned students against allowing politicians to recruit them for thuggery ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The So-Safe Corps said Agbajo was arrested following a complaint received by its Director of Anti-Arms Smuggling on September 7, 2026.

The Corps Commander, Dr Soji Ganzallo, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, ACC Adegunwa Adegbuyi, in Abeokuta.

Ganzallo said concerned members of the community reported that the girl returned home crying and, when questioned by her mother, allegedly disclosed that the suspect had raped her.

According to him, the mother raised an alarm, attracting members of the community, after which the matter was reported to the corps.

He said operatives immediately moved to the suspect’s residence at Hassan Compound, Igbokulu, Ita-Egbe, Ipokia, where he was arrested.

Ganzallo added that during preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to committing the offence on his farm at Ojugo, Ita-Egbe.

He said Agbajo would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution, while commending residents for their cooperation.

Also, the Ogun State Police Command urged students across the state to reject attempts by politicians to recruit them for violent acts as the 2027 elections approach.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, gave the warning yesterday at the 45th Students Parliament Council Summit 2026 at the Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta.

Speaking on the theme, “From Campus to Nation: Mobilising for Peace, Security and Development,” Babaseyi urged students to shun cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, violence and other forms of criminality capable of destroying their future.

He said politicians often target youths, particularly students, during election periods to perpetrate violence, urging them to remain focused on their education and personal development.

Babaseyi also warned politicians and other stakeholders against recruiting youths to cause violence, stressing that anyone found engaging in criminal activities before, during or after the elections would face the full weight of the law.

“As we approach the 2027 general elections, Nigerian youths must choose the path of peaceful participation, issue-based engagement and respect for democratic processes. Your voice matters, but it must be expressed responsibly,” he said.

He further urged students to use their mobile phones and social media platforms responsibly by promoting peace and unity, while avoiding rumours, hate speech, inflammatory content and unverified claims capable of causing tension or conflict.
