…Governor orders intensified probe, vows to bring remaining suspects to justice

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for the arrest of three suspects allegedly linked to Thursday’s attack on Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area of the state.

The governor also condemned the attack, which reportedly claimed the lives of several people, including police officers.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Alia described the arrests as a significant step towards uncovering the circumstances surrounding the attack and bringing those responsible to justice.

“We urge the DSS to intensify its investigation and make the best use of the information obtained from the suspects in its custody,” the governor said.

Alia described the attack as a “despicable” assault on the peace-loving people of Ayilamo and a serious threat to the security and stability of Benue State.

He said the reported killing of four law enforcement officers was particularly painful, noting that it underscored the sacrifices security personnel make in the line of duty.

The governor said the incident was a disturbing reminder of persistent insecurity and repeated attacks on vulnerable communities and security personnel in the area.

“I extend heartfelt condolences to the people of Ayilamo, the families of all the victims, and the entire Logo Local Government community. We mourn with you and assure you that you are not alone in this difficult period,” he said.

Alia also commiserated with the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, over the loss of the four officers.

“We honour their courage and sacrifice and pray that God grants their families, colleagues, and loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.

On the arrest of the suspects, the governor directed security agencies to pursue all available leads to identify and apprehend other persons allegedly connected with the attack.

“Every available lead should be diligently followed to identify and arrest the remaining accomplices, sponsors, collaborators, and other persons connected with the attack. All those found culpable must face the full weight of the law,” he said.

Alia assured residents that his administration would continue to collaborate with security agencies to strengthen security in Ayilamo, Logo and other vulnerable communities across the state.

“We are committed to supporting efforts aimed at preventing further attacks, protecting residents, restoring peace, and ensuring that affected communities receive the necessary attention and support,” he said.

The governor urged residents of Ayilamo and surrounding communities to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, while providing credible and timely information to security agencies.

“I encourage residents to provide credible and timely information to the security agencies while refraining from actions that could heighten tension or undermine the ongoing investigation,” he said.

Alia assured the people of Ayilamo and Benue State that his administration would not abandon them, stressing that the government remained committed to protecting lives and property, upholding justice and restoring lasting peace across the state.
