The first National Taekwondo Club/Team Championship will be held from September 18 to 20, 2026, at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation has announced.

The championship marks the return of a major national taekwondo competition to Lagos State for the first time in more than 10 years.

The championship will bring together teams representing states, clubs, universities, and
institutions across Nigeria in a competition designed to promote teamwork, strategic excellence, sportsmanship, and national unity.

According to the organisers, the championship will feature Team Kyorugi (Tag-Match Sparring) and Team Poomsae competitions in both the senior and junior categories.

Speaking on behalf of the organisers, the Lagos State Taekwondo Association described the championship as a significant milestone in the growth of the sport and a major boost for youth development and sports tourism in Lagos State.

The association said that the event aligns with Lagos State’s vision of becoming the foremost sports destination in Nigeria while providing athletes with a platform to compete at the highest national level.

The championship is expected to attract hundreds of athletes, coaches, officials, supporters and visitors from across the country, generating economic activities for hotels, transportation providers, restaurants and local businesses in Lagos.

The association disclosed that over N4 million would be won by the athletes, with the winning teams also getting medals and certificates.
