The Gani Fawehinmi Memorial Organisation (GAFAMORG) has launched the People’s Living Dignity Test 2026, a nationwide exercise to document Nigerians’ experiences with the rising cost of living and the challenges of maintaining a basic standard of living.

The organisation said the initiative would gather evidence directly from Nigerians across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on their everyday economic circumstances, including wages, living standards and the cost of meeting basic needs.

In a statement yesterday, signed by its Chairman, Babatunde Agunbiade, and Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ade Adeoye Adewunmi, GAFAMORG said the exercise was designed to ensure that public discussions about the economy and living standards were informed by the experiences of people directly affected.

According to the organisation, the questionnaire provides Nigerians with a structured platform to share their present circumstances and evidence as part of wider public discussions on living standards, economic dignity and social justice.

GAFAMORG urged Nigerians to participate by completing the questionnaire through its online responder form, stressing that respondents should answer the questions honestly and based on their current circumstances.

The organisation also called on individuals and groups to circulate the questionnaire widely through communities, workplaces, trade unions and workers’ networks, religious organisations, youth and student groups, community associations and social media platforms.

It specifically appealed to journalists, civil society organisations, community leaders and other public-interest institutions to help reach Nigerians who might otherwise lack the opportunity to participate.

GAFAMORG said the exercise was intended to generate people-centred evidence, rather than opinions alone, to support ongoing documentation and public discussion on wages, living standards, economic dignity and social justice.

It added that relevant findings would be released as responses were compiled and analysed.

The organisation described the initiative as part of its continuing commitment to the ideals of human rights lawyer and activist, the late Gani Fawehinmi, under the theme: “Remembering Gani by Continuing His Struggle.”
