More than 3,000 students from secondary and tertiary institutions are expected to participate in the seventh edition of the Bodex Social Media Hangout, scheduled to be held at the University of Lagos on December 10, with N2.2 million in prizes earmarked for student competitions.
The event, organised by public relations and digital media strategist Bodex Hungbo, will feature debates, quiz competitions and digital media masterclasses aimed at promoting responsible online engagement, creativity and innovation among young people.
The organisers said the competition would offer N1 million to the first-place winner, N700,000 to the second-place winner and N500,000 to the third-place winner.
The programme, which will take place at the Distance Learning Institute Hall of the university, is themed, ‘Influence with Purpose: Shaping Africa’s Digital Future’.
Television presenter and quizmaster, Frank Edoho, and Nollywood actor, Lateef Adedimeji, have been unveiled as hosts of the event, which is expected to bring together students, digital creators, media professionals and other stakeholders.
Speaking ahead of the programme, Hungbo said the initiative was designed to give young people opportunities to develop their skills, express themselves and explore opportunities in the digital economy.
‘Young people are not just the future of the digital economy; they are already shaping it. At Bodex Social Media Hangout, we are intentional about giving students from secondary schools and tertiary institutions platforms to learn, compete, express themselves, build confidence and discover opportunities beyond the classroom,’ she said.
Hungbo said the choice of the two hosts was intended to expose participants to different aspects of knowledge, creativity, confidence and storytelling.
Other activities lined up for the event include interactive games, raffle draws and the presentation of certificates to participants.
The annual gathering has, over its previous editions, brought together students, content creators, media professionals and policymakers to discuss digital engagement, innovation and personal development.
