Former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has expressed confidence that an African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led government would improve Nigerians’ standard of living if elected in the 2027 general elections.

Malami said the party was committed to building a Nigeria where citizens would enjoy affordable living conditions, improved security, employment opportunities, and accountable governance.

He stated this while reacting to the ADC presidential campaign flag-off held in Birnin Kebbi, where former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was presented to party supporters ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement expressing appreciation to the people of Kebbi State for their massive turnout and support, the former minister said the enthusiasm demonstrated during the campaign had reaffirmed the people’s determination to pursue a better future for the state and the country.

He commended Atiku for his leadership and commitment to national renewal while acknowledging the contributions of the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, other national and state party leaders, campaign coordinators, and supporters

According to him, the party’s priorities include addressing the rising cost of fuel, tackling insecurity, and creating employment opportunities for Nigerians.

Malami, however, said his commitment to Kebbi State would focus on agricultural transformation, quality education, accessible healthcare, youth empowerment, improved security, local government autonomy, and accountable governance.

The former AGF also condemned alleged incidents of intimidation, harassment, and violence during the campaign activities.

Malami also expressed concern over reports that political thugs attacked members of the campaign convoy, destroyed media equipment, and that tear gas was deployed around areas occupied by members of the visiting delegation.

He said any involvement of government institutions or security agencies in such actions was unacceptable and called for a thorough investigation.

Malami particularly condemned the reported demolition of the Malami Pressure Group (MPG) headquarters along Sani Abacha Bypass in Birnin Kebbi, describing the circumstances surrounding the incident as troubling.

He said the state government’s denial of involvement and its attribution of the demolition to a private ownership dispute should not preclude transparency and accountability.

“Political disagreement must never become an excuse for intimidation, destruction of property or suppression of lawful opposition,” he said.

The former minister also highlighted the security and humanitarian challenges confronting Kebbi State, including banditry, displacement, poverty, food insecurity, and disruptions to agricultural activities.

He cited the National Emergency Management Agency’s (NEMA) humanitarian intervention in March 2026 for victims of banditry in Shanga, Yauri, and Bunza local government areas as evidence of the difficulties facing affected communities.

Malami urged the state government to prioritise the protection of farmers, access to quality education, affordable food, and economic opportunities for young people rather than engage in actions capable of intimidating political opponents.

He called on the Kebbi State Government, security agencies, and political stakeholders to respect democratic principles, prevent political violence, and guarantee citizens’ freedom to participate in the electoral process.

He also urged ADC supporters to remain peaceful, disciplined, and law-abiding, insisting that the party’s pursuit of democratic change must be guided by responsible political engagement and respect for the rule of law.
