Chin-Chin is a very popular fried snack in Nigeria. It’s the official Christmas snack and was the official wedding snack before small chops. It’s made from a combination of flour, milk and sugar. There are other optional ingredients like egg, baking powder and nutmeg, but these are based on preference. Here is a simple guide on how to make this snack.
Ingredients
- 3 cups flour (375 grams)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Pinch of nutmeg
- 1/2 cup sugar (100 grams)
- 1/2 cup baking margarine (115 grams)
- 1/2 to 2/3 cup liquid milk or water
- 1 egg
- Oil for frying
Steps
- Combine flour, baking powder and sugar in a bowl.Add in margarine and mix until well incorporated (it should look like breadcrumbs)
- Add egg into the mixture
- Gradually pour in water until you get a stretchy but not sticky dough
- Roll out dough on a flat surface and cut to desired shape (preferably square shapes)
- Set oil to medium heat
- Once oil is hot add the dough a batch at a time till you get a golden brown shape
