Provost bags African Students’ Union Parliament award

The African Students’ Union Parliament (ASUP), has honoured the Provost of the Adeyemi College of Education (ACE), Ondo Dr. Samuel Akintunde, with the Pan-African Leadership Merit award.The award was presented to the Provost in his office during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the African Students’ Union Parliament.
In his address shortly before the presentation, the Speaker, Rt. Hon Kewal Mensah Abel, from the Institute of Professional Studies, Madina, Accra, Ghana, noted that the Parliament took time to scrutinise the Provost who he said had committed his time to serve the common good in line with the African ideology.

He disclosed that the contribution of the Provost towards effective service delivery and productivity in the College was brought to the limelight by Nigerian Representatives at the conference of the Parliament in Ghana.He said: “At a time that the youth need to have exemplary leaders as role models, we have carefully selected you to be honoured with Pan-African Leadership Award”.

Abel described the Provost as a detribalised Nigerian, lover of students/youth with a charismatic personality, whose credible credentials of efficient and effective service delivery, high administrative acumen, capacity building, economic development, financial prudence, dedicated leadership, patriotism, nation building, youth empowerment and community service mark him as an iconic patriot of African society worthy of emulation.

Apart from honouring the Provost, the leadership parliament also used the opportunity to highlight their activities in their countries of operation around Africa.According to Abel, the African Students Union Parliament is the umbrella body that covers all the students within the 54 African Union registered member countries with the core objectives of encouraging harmonious co-existence among members’ state students.

In his remarks, Dr. Akintunde appreciated the parliament for the honour bestowed on him and commended their effort on the issue of drug abuse, which he noted destroys lives and encourages crimes.“I will like you to reach out more to talk about drug abuse. Your focus on Africanism and drug abuse is commendable. You need to now organize sensitization programme on drug abuse in all campuses. It is enough a programme, one hour of public lecture and then fall into panel sessions. It will help your programme and help in sensitizing the youth on dangers of drug abuse,” he added.
