The Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), describing the appointment as a demonstration of competence, integrity and professionalism.

RATTAWU President, Comrade Prince Emeka Kalu, made the commendation during a media-security critical engagement and strategic partnership meeting focused on national development, where Ajayi was honoured with the Golden Era Pillar of Critical and Strategic Intelligence for National Development Award.

The initiative, according to the union, is designed to recognise individuals and institutions that have made outstanding contributions to national development, security, democracy, culture and the growth of Nigeria.

Kalu commended Tinubu for appointing Ajayi to lead the country’s foremost domestic intelligence organisation, describing the DSS boss as a “silent achiever,” competent and detribalised Nigerian whose commitment to national service transcends ethnic, religious and political considerations.

He said the appointment underscored the importance of placing capable Nigerians with integrity and professional competence in strategic positions of national responsibility.

Kalu also highlighted the role of the DSS in protecting Nigeria’s national interests, gathering critical intelligence and supporting national security, particularly at a time the country faces complex security threats and emerging technological challenges.

He said RATTAWU, as a union representing workers across the radio, television, theatre and arts sectors, has a responsibility to contribute to national development by using its platforms to promote responsible communication, peace, unity and democratic values.

According to him, RATTAWU will continue to provide platforms for citizen sensitisation, especially as the country prepares for the forthcoming general elections.

He stressed that the media and creative sectors have important roles to play in combating misinformation, promoting tolerance and encouraging citizens to participate responsibly in the democratic process.

Kalu also called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, the media, creative professionals and organised labour to build a peaceful and cohesive Nigeria.

Responding, Ajayi expressed appreciation to the RATTAWU leadership for the honour, describing the recognition as a significant gesture that would encourage him and the DSS to remain committed to their responsibilities to the nation.

The DSS Director-General urged RATTAWU to remain steadfast in promoting national cohesion, tolerance, peace and unity, noting that these values are essential to Nigeria’s stability and development.

Ajayi also assured the union of his willingness to remain available for constructive engagement, particularly in areas that could foster meaningful networks, partnerships and collaboration between the DSS and RATTAWU.

He expressed optimism that such engagements would strengthen institutional cooperation and contribute to greater national cohesion.
