Ondo State Wealth Creation Agency (WECA) recently conducted an induction for 100 newly engaged profarmers and agropreneurs to enhance agricultural development in the state.

The governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko affirmed that the scheme represents another landmark to bequeath a legacy of zero tolerance for poverty and create empowerment programmes for the unemployed youths.

According to him, the activities of WECA are designed to revolutionize completely the agriculture profession and make it more attractive to young minds as against the crude and drudgery kind it used to be.

“As usual, they will be subjected to various trainings on capacity building, modern method of practising agriculture, and above all, entrepreneurial skill development so as to make our youth see agriculture not only as a vacation, but also as a business”, he said.

Mimiko who was represented by Commissioner for Agriculture, Segun Ayerin, said the programme was tagged: “Profarmers and Agropreneurs Sustainable Scheme (PASS), seeks to empower youths in the Agro Business Cities in the three senatorial districts of the state.

Ayerin stated that the state government has provided all the inputs and logistics for the training, which were climaxed with the upgrading of Ore Agro Business City (ABC) to an international standard by partnering with International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and other institutions.

The chairman of the agency, Bolanle Olafunmiloye affirmed that the agency has trained over 2000 profarmers at the Ore, Epe, Isuada and Auga ABCs, establishing a 1000 daily chicken processing plant with supporting facilities.
