Nigerian curator and multidisciplinary artist, Adekepemi Aderemi, has been appointed Associate Director of Adegbola Gallery, Lagos.

Aderemi, who has already contributed to the gallery’s curatorial programme, will take on an expanded role covering exhibitions, artist development and institutional relationships.

Her appointment, according to the gallery, strengthens its curatorial team as it develops a programme connecting Nigeria’s modernist legacies with contemporary artistic practice.

Aderemi’s work spans exhibition research and production, public programming, and support for artists at different stages of their careers.

At Adegbola Gallery, she curated Efuru and the Woman of the Lake in March 2026. Drawing on Flora Nwapa’s 1966 novel, the exhibition explored women’s lives, independence and community through works by artists across generations, including Ladi Kwali, Susanne Wenger, Ndidi Emefiele, Nengi Omuku and Oluwasemilore Delano.

The exhibition featured painting, pottery, sculpture and textiles, offering different perspectives on women’s experiences and their representation in art.

Aderemi had earlier curated Enduring Legacies: A Collector’s Tribute to Masters in 2025, presented at the Ecobank Pan-African Centre in Lagos.

Curated from Andrew Ine’s private collection, the exhibition featured works by Nigerian artists including Bruce Onobrakpeya, Twins Seven Seven and Kolade Oshinowo.

In 2023, Aderemi founded Art Cadre Gallery, an independent curatorial platform focused on exhibition-making and artist development. Through exhibitions, mentorship and collaborative projects, the platform supports emerging and established practitioners.

She made her curatorial debut with Eve in 2023, an exhibition that examined womanhood through works by Nigerian women artists.

Aderemi studied Textiles at Loughborough University. Her background as a practising artist informs her attention to materials, process and visual storytelling, as well as her approach to developing exhibitions in close dialogue with artists and their work.

The appointment comes as Adegbola Gallery develops its international programme. Following its first presentation at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair in New York with Aaron Kudi in May 2026, the gallery is set to debut at The Armory Show in September with a solo presentation of new work by Oluwasemilore Delano.
