Speaking on what inspired the new single, the Kogi State-born artiste, who hails from Ogori-Magongo Council, said, “I am a stern lover of afrobeats and afro swing. Dey here is a feel-good song to lighten up the mood. This is simply one for the culture as my fans deserve to dance and be happy.”

BoyMx was born and brought up in Yola, Adamawa State, where he attended his primary and secondary education, he was also at the Modibbo Adama University, Yola, before moving to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria to complete his degree programme in chemical engineering. He also has a certificate in health and safety.

Narrating his journey into music, the multi-talented singer said, “I started writing music in 2012 after miming other hit songs from Nigerian and foreign artistes. I am versatile with my music hence focusing on growing my sound came very easy for me. I started music professionally in 2020 with a single titled, Work. I rap fluently in Hausa, pidgin, Yoruba, patois, and English.”

BoyMx describes his genre of music as afrobeat, but tags his sound as ‘Sabi music’ and says it is a combination of afroswing and afropop.

His single, Dey here, is currently making waves in the country and has enjoyed frequent play at the current popular reality television game show, Big Brother Naija season 6.

On how he hopes to break into the Nigerian music space, he said, “there is always space, you just have to find it. The industry is constantly growing; hence, you have to bring something unique and fresh to the table as a new artist. If there is no place to sit, you stand, until you make your mark and build your throne.”

BoyMx, however, noted that his fans should expect more singles, relatable and unique songs. “I have a mix of afrobeat and hip-hop tune for my fans and yes a body of work soon and I am sure my fans will love every bit of it,” he said.
