The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has received Belgium’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Peter Leenknegt, on a farewell visit as he concludes his diplomatic assignment in the country.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu hosted the envoy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commending his role in deepening diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Belgium during his tenure.

She noted that both countries have maintained cordial relations since establishing diplomatic ties in 1961, with cooperation spanning trade, infrastructure, maritime affairs, agriculture and other strategic sectors.

According to the minister, Ambassador Leenknegt played a key role in advancing bilateral air service negotiations, strengthening economic and agricultural partnerships, and supporting vaccine production initiatives between both countries.

She also praised the Belgian envoy for promoting Nigerian arts and culture through mentorship opportunities, exchange programmes and initiatives that showcased the country’s creative talents internationally.

“As the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria bid you farewell, we thank you for your service and wish you every success in your future endeavours,” Odumegwu-Ojukwu said.
